I have been staff, contractor, gardener and small business owner, director, waitress, schlepper, fire maker, and facilitator. I am a creator, organizer, and listener and bring all this to my work for you with Jen Zen Productions.

Roots

Me and my best bud, Napo, in Philomont, VA, 1973.

Born in Alexandria, Virginia, I landed in Philomont, VA when my parents (who met and wed in Colorado) moved to a very old house in 1970 when I was two and my brother was six.

Immersed in open fields and woods and friendships with animals – and the legendary horsewoman next door who brought me up, with her kids, on ponies’ backs – mixed with the Rolling Stones, experimental gardens, and alternative sensibilities at home, set a colorful stage of wonderment and grounding in nature and place.

We moved over the mountain to Clarke County, VA in 1977, where the Shenandoah River and Blue Ridge Mountains became touchstones. I went to college in 1986. I moved out west in 1994. I returned to Clarke County in 1998. I live on the land, again, I’ve known for the past 45 years, with a couple little dogs, indoor cat, and abundant wildlife. And in a community I know, love, and want to contribute to.
